What Is New In 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza Car review
Traditionally, Maruti Suzuki has usually been a producer of small motors and hatchbacks. Cars like Zen, Alto, 800, Swift, Ritz, WagonR, etc. are forever etched in the hearts of Indian families, who depend on these workhorses. The brand made a few SUVs like the Gypsy and Grand Vitara. However, they were just as big for sale as they were a favorite of enthusiasts.
Indians love SUVs and Maruti Suzuki needed an SUV that was not only capable but also sold well. To this end, at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki showcased a product that would script history for the brand by becoming the bestselling SUV in India. Yes, it was the Vitara Brezza and it immediately became a huge success.
The Vitara Brezza introduced such an eye-catching prospect that even Toyota selected the SUV as its first rebadged product as a phase of its deal with Suzuki. Now, the nextgen of SUV has been revealed and massive changes have been made to this SUV.
We drove the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza on the iconic East Coast Road and around the scenic spots of Mahabalipuram to find out what was new. So let us tell you what changes the company has made in the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza and how much better it is than before.
Design And Style
If you liked the design of the old Brezza, chances are you will like it too. It looks more muscular and SUVlike than before. The design lines perfectly align with the rest of the car and there is more to it than just cosmetic changes. Also, it is boxier in styling than before.
While the all new Maruti Suzuki Brezza is new from all angles, it looks freshest at the front. Be it the LED DRLs or the new grille, it gives the SUV a unique styling that is enough to leave a mark on one’s heart.
The first element that will grab your attention will be the new headlamp setup. From a distance, it looks like a square design, but a closer look reveals that it has some curves. The LED DRLs look absolutely stunning and the headlamps blend seamlessly into the new grille.
The Big Suzuki Logo
The grill here is a bit complicated and you would feel that too much has been given here. The big Suzuki logo gets prominence and the new bumper also looks quite stuffy. The fog lamps are really small and are enclosed in the black cladding. This cladding is found throughout the bumper and continues on the side profile as well.
The bonnet has not been rounded as the headlamps have been slightly lowered. At the bottom is the silver scuff plate. Wheels moving side by side attract your attention. These are dual-tone diamond cut 16inch wheels. The lower variants are available with painted wheels and the base variant comes with steel wheels.
The wheel arches are now more flared and this gives the SUV a muscular stance. The design lines are now straight and this gives the Brezza a boxy look. As we mentioned earlier, the cladding continues from the front to the sides as well. This matte black cladding is really thick on the wheel arches and gets even thicker on the doors. It has also been contoured to make it even better.
The new Brezza A, B, C, and D pillars are blacked out on all the variants, while the roof is blacked out only on the ZXi and ZXi+ variants. This combination looks really attractive. But the question is, what is more, attractive in it, and that is the rear end?
The split LED tail lamps are sleek and slim while the tailgate has shrunk in size. This also means that the loading lip is slightly higher than before. The Brezza moniker takes prominence and so does the Suzuki logo.
Below is a silver scuff plate with two horizontal reflectors on top. The number plate space is also very nice. Overall, it is easy to say that the rear of the new Brezza is the best. Overall, the new Brezza sports a face design that is sporty and youthful. It’s sure to draw eyes to the road.
Cockpit And Interior
The interior and cockpit of the new Brezza are youthful yet large and mature. Maruti Suzuki says it is ‘hot and tacky’ and we agree to an extent. The new Brezza gets dual-tone black and brown interiors. Black is definitely youthful, while Brown is a bit more mature. This contrast is seen in the new Brezza.
In front of the driver is a steering wheel that looks like it has existed for centuries. There has been no change in the design and the same wheel is also found on the Swift and the new Baleno. You get steering-mounted controls and the flatbottom design along with the silver insert makes it a bit sporty.
Behind the steering wheel is the analog-digital instrument cluster with full color MID. The MID displays a lot of information about the vehicle and is quite fancy. This instrumentation is a huge improvement over the outgoing Brezza.
Apart from the MID, the driver can also view important information related to the drive on the MID. This is really fancy stuff and would be extremely useful especially on long drives at high speeds. The dashboard also looks good with the brushed aluminum elements on the left.

The touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage on the dashboard
The lower variant gets a 7inch touchscreen while the top spec ZXi+ variant gets a larger 9inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment. This includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sound is presented through the ARKAMYS audio system with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.
The sound is great and nothing to complain about. Really shouldn’t expect more than this at this price point. It is definitely better than the competition in this area. The equal touchscreen additionally shows imagery from the 360degree camera. Below the infotainment screen are the AC vents and below them are controls for climate control. This is where you really start getting the premium vibes from the new Brezza. A major improvement over the outgoing model, the new Brezza features toggle switches for temperature and fan speed, with a small LCD display in between.
When we get to the center console, there are USB slots on the front for charging your phone and connecting it to the infotainment system. Beneath the USB port is the wireless smartphone charging pad, which we found extremely useful during our testing.
The rest of the center console is very simple, with a gear lever and handbrake. As mentioned at the beginning of this section, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Brezza gets a youthful and modern yet mature interior.
Comfort And Practicality
Comfort and practicality have continually been the robust factors of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. To live up to such a reputation, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Brezza had its work cut out from the start.
We are happy to share that the new Brezza is as practical and comfortable as the old one. The seats are very comfortable, to begin with, and one can sit inside them for a long time. Despite Maruti Suzuki promoting the new Brezza as a ‘city bred’ SUV, riders in the new Brezza can comfortably cover long distances.
Comfort continues in the back as well. The rear passengers have plenty of space. Headroom is great and leg room too. The support under the thigh could have been better, but it’s not really a dealbreaker. You get a fold down armrest that houses cupholders.
In terms of practicality, there’s a lot to talk about. Steering mounted controls and HUD are two features, which are very practical and useful on a daily basis.
The glove box has good space and the door pockets also get plenty of space. You also get seatback pockets and a hook behind the front seats so rear passengers can hang a small bag or something like that.
In terms of boot space, the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza gets a 328liter space at the rear. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza remains a viable offering in the Indian market.
Engine Performance And Driving Impressions
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the only SUV in the segment that doesn’t have a diesel engine option. Maruti Suzuki is quite vocal when it comes to why there is no diesel engine. It is a fact that petrol engines emit a lesser amount of pollution than diesel engines and a narrowing of the price differential between petrol and diesel fuel simply means that the demand for diesel cars will decrease. We have already seen this drop in demand for diesel cars and Maruti Suzuki was one of the first brands to drop diesel engines from its lineup.
This is a 1,463cc K15C Dual Jet dualVVT four-cylinder engine that churns out a maximum power output of 101.6bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque output of 136.8Nm at 4,400rpm. We are happy to share that the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza runs a bit faster than the old model. It is felt in every gear and driveability is excellent. We drove both manual and automatic variants.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The manual gearbox has a light clutch and is easy to drive in urban conditions. It’s not like physically pushing the guys who drive it in bumper-to-bumper traffic like some of its competitors. The tools lever is additionally lightweight and altering gears is easy. It is no longer too long, nor is it too short. The proportions also match perfectly and there is nothing to complain about.
Moving to the torque converter automatic gearbox. Torque converter engines generally pair well with bigger engines and on that note, we felt the gearbox could have been better in the new Maruti Brezza. As expected, there is a knockdown and it is a bit slow to respond.
However, you can slot the gearbox into guide mode and use the paddle shifters in the back of the steerage wheel to shift gears. This corrects the lag of the gearbox to some extent. However, we would prefer a manual gearbox for its accuracy.
When it comes to riding and handling, there aren’t many changes. The steering is rather light and can handle a lot of use in urban areas and the excellent turning radius makes it easy to maneuver in tight spaces. However, it’s not quite as sure at high speeds as we’d like it to be.
It uses the same suspension and brake setup as the previous Vitara Brezza. The suspension isn’t too soft, nor is it too stiff. It absorbs bumps very well and does not have much body roll.
The ride is very comfortable and most of the credit goes to the seats. They are very cozy as we cited formerly in the review. It is not the best handler in the segment and was not meant to be chucked around corners. Maruti Suzuki says that it is an urban SUV and for that kind of usage, the new Brezza is the best.
The new Brezza has enough braking capabilities and they are just fine. Disc brakes have been provided at the front and drum brakes at the rear. At the end of it all, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is capable of handling long drives, but you will enjoy the most in urban areas.
